The Club generally uses the Marina channel M2 (which may appear on the radio as P4 due to limitations with the liquid crystal display) for communication during club racing & training. Other channels may be used during larger open meetings and championships.
Towards the end of 2016 the club started using ICOM M35 radios and in 2020 started to use ICOM M37A radios, so we have a mixture.
. There are (or should be) 6 of these in the cupboard. Please note the following important points:
- The M2 channel is displayed as P4 (due to limited capability of the Liquid Crystal Display).
- Otherwise all other functions are via the push button controls with standard icons.
- It is important that the radios are dried off and the contacts are wiped clean and dried off before placing into the charger.
If you think a radio is not working properly, you can always do a radio check by switching to Channel 80 and calling Mylor Water Taxi (i.e. "MYLOR WATER TAXI, this is RSC for RADIO CHECK....OVER"). A radio check should be done before every session with each radio as a matter of safety.
The Club also has some older radios for use as spares or at bigger events or championships.
The radio chargers are on a timer, so the radios only get changed for 1.5 hours overnight every night (otherwise the batteries can get overcharged and keep failing). There is a small button on the charger timing unit which you can use to give an extra hour of charge, useful to check radios are in their cradles correctly (the ICOM M35 cradles have lights - lights should come on, the ICOM M37A radios should display 'chg' or 'FUL' ).
